How does a BFA compare to a BS in graphic design?

Generally, you will find that the BFA programs require more units in the major than the BS (or BA) degrees.

The BS degree tends to be more technical, and may not require Art History.

For comparison:

Here's what it says on the Cal State Fullerton website : "The BFA degree requires the completion of 132 units with minimum of 69 units in art, including 12 units in art history and 57 units in studio art."

(scroll down to "What Degrees are Offered")

At San Francisco State, the BS in graphic design program requires 58 units, with no Art History required:

The San Francisco State program appears more technical in its nature, and has no Art History requirement.
